Nicely designed hood but they need to work on quality control. The sheetmetal plenum that the fan sits in was spotwelded slightly off center so the fan rubbed and made a racket when I first installed it. Being an engineer I am inclined to fix things myself and was able to modify the motor bracket to shift the fan over a bit to clear. I know 99% of people would not have done this but hopefully I just got the 1 hood that slipped through QC (if they did any). The sad part about this is that this hood is actually made in the USA...I would have expected this sort of quality problem from an offshore manufacturer! Would have probably given 5 stars if the housing had not been welded improperly as it is otherwise a good hood. One the hood was fixed it does run well, is pretty quiet (some whine from the motor at low speed) and produces a hurricane at high speed. Wish the front vent for ductless operation angled the airflow up a bit so it didn't blow in your face when you are standing in front of the range. I do like the continuously variable speed control vs. most hi/lo/off controls. The black wires (line) could have been another 2 or so longer for slightly easier wiring.Black finish looked very good.Shipped quickly and replacement filters were fairly priced. Much better price online than they wanted at local H-D & Lowes

Not everything needed for installation is included. You need 3 wire nuts and a cable clamp to go in the knockout, which I had to salvage from the old range hood this one replaced. The wiring is kind of messy, with 3 wires total to attach using each wire nut, and it's a challenge to shove all the wires under the protective panel at the same time. There's only one light bulb socket (in the center-front), and the plastic cover for it is too small for a dimmable CFL bulb. You can install a dimmable CFL, you just can't put the protective cover on. That's a short-sighted design flaw given that we've already started the phaseout of incandescent bulbs in the U.S.A.I had to drill two additional holes in the sheet metal and use longer wood screws than supplied in order to mount the rear to the frame of our cabinets. The instructions suggest screwing a piece of wood to the bottom of the cabinet and mounting the hood to that, but that seemed like a structurally flimsy approach (at least with our cheap old cabinets) and I didn't have appropriately sized wood. The fan is not what I would call quiet, but it's bearable and does seem to move a lot of air, and after I tightened the screws hard to the cabinets the hood doesn't rattle. The continuously variable fan speed is nice. The light bulb has two brightness settings. The switches seem sturdy. The unit looks attractive enough, given its price. I've only had it installed for about a week, so longevity is unknown. Ours was made in the U.S.A.This seems to be one of the few moderately priced under-cabinet range hoods not made by Broan, which is what I was looking for because of a bad experience with a Broan-made Nutone hood.

Not satisfied with variable speed. Fan hums excessively when adjust to midrange speed, I have to turn up speed then lower to eliminate hum.overall I give it a 3 star.
